Italian Romantic composer Giuseppe Verdi wrote mainly for opera. But 1974's Requiem is more of a choral work. It's a grand musical memorial to a writer Verdi much admired, composed for four soloists, a choir and full orchestra.

Nearly 200 members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra will perform the work this weekend. They'll be joined by four singers who performed recently at the Metropolitan Opera.
Guest soprano Amber Wagner is a winner of the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Finals and was featured in the documentary film The Audition, which opened to audiences nationwide in 2009.
Guest tenor James Valenti is considered one of his generation’s brightest rising stars. He received the Richard Tucker Award in 2010, recognizing an American singer poised on the edge of international stardom.
Ted Prichard, of Arizona Public Media's Classical 90.5, talked with Wagner and Valenti about performing Requiem.
