Matinee broadcasts from The Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 this Saturday, April 4, at 10:00 a.m. with a performance of Ernani by Giuseppe Verdi, set to a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave after Victor Hugo’s drama Hernani. The performance will be sung in Italian and the broadcast will run approximately three hours and thirty-five minutes.

Rousing choruses that pulse with patriotism, full-blooded arias that pin you to the back of your seat, and big characters who create the kind of performances you never forget are the hallmark's of Verdi's Ernani. The Spanish king, a vindictive grandee, and Ernani — a nobleman forced to become an outlaw — are mortal enemies. Yet they're bound together by an ancient code of honor ... and they're all in love with the same woman.

Met Music Director James Levine and Plácido Domingo reunite for the Levine's first Met Ernani in more than 30 years and Domingo's first-ever performance of the baritone role of Don Carlo. Francesco Meli sings the title role and Angela Meade is the soprano heroine, caught between the rivals for her love.

THE CAST
