The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee are both targeting the Congressional District 1 race.
The two national groups are now debuting their first TV ads in the race.
The Democrats are airing an ad critical of Republican Jonathan Paton for his past ties to the payday loan industry. The issue was raised when Paton ran for Congress two years ago. He acknowledges he worked for the payday industry but says he was never an active lobbyist.
The Republicans are putting money into a new ad targeting Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick. The group is tying her to Democratic leaders in Congress from Kirkpatrick’s previous time on Capitol Hill.
CD1 has no incumbent because it has newly drawn boundaries from redistricting. It stretches from Oro Valley to Arizona’s northern border.
