"Shakespeare in the Park" presentations have become a popular contemporary way for people to enjoy the plays of the great bard.

Locally, they also provide an opportunity to spend some time outdoors just as Tucson's summer temperatures are beginning to cool down.

The El Rio Theatre Project, a division of the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation, will present its 6th annual Shakespeare in the Park production with The Taming of the Shrew .

Performances happen at the Himmel Park Outdoor Amphitheater, located at 1000 North Tucson Boulevard, over three consecutive weekends: September 21-23, September 27-30, and October 4-7.

The curtain rises at 7 p.m. for all performances, and the event is open to the public, but donations are suggested. Organizers advise that you bring a blanket, a picnic basket, and the whole family.
