Joan Clark, of Chandler, is the new state librarian.

Clark has been serving as interim director for the Arizona Capitol Museum and deputy director of the state library since the previous librarian, GladysAnn Wells, retired in 2011.

The state library is a division of the Arizona Secretary of State's office, and Secretary Ken Bennett announced Clark's hiring last week.

The librarian oversees state records, including official archives, and is responsible for documenting and preserving state history. The state librarian also acts as a consultant for other public libraries in the state.

Clark is already in the job as state librarian. Her previous work experience includes marketing and drafting legislative policy. She also was a school teacher.
