The pipe organ plays an important musical role in a wide range of occasions, from places of worship that host both weddings and funerals to sporting events and live theater.

The mission statement of the Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Guild of Organists is "to promote the organ in its historic and evolving roles, to encourage excellence in the performance of organ and choral music, and to provide a forum for mutual support, inspiration, education, and certification of guild members."

To further these ends, the Southern Arizona chapter is holding its annual showcase recital Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2450 East Fort Lowell Road.

The recital will feature performance on the Quimby organ by Norene Walters, Chris Fresolone and Fern Hieb, including works composed by late Guild of Organists member Marilyn Rinehart.
