Broadcasts from The Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, December 29th, with a performance of The Tempest by Thomas Adès, based on the Shakespeare play of the same name. The English libretto is by by Meredith Oakes. The performance will run approximately three hours.

The Tempest, Adès’ second opera, was commissioned by London's Royal Opera House and was premièred there in February 2004 and revived in 2007. The composer himself conducts the Met's premiere of the work, widely praised as a modern masterpiece. Visionary directory Robert LaPage sets the story in a recreation of Milan's famous La Scala opera house, where Prospero, the banished Duke of Milan, performs his magic.
