The National Christmas Tree Lighting 2009

The National Christmas Tree Lighting is celebrating its 86th year. The tree for this year’s celebration is from Arizona! The ceremony airs Friday, December 18th at 9:00 p.m. on PBS-HD.

The Lighting of the National Christmas Tree signals the start of the holiday season across the country. Taped at President's Park in Washington, DC., the 60-minute special includes appearances and performances by some of the most recognizable names in entertainment, with the evening's festivities capped off with the ceremonial lighting of the National Christmas Tree by a very special guest!

Featured artists include award winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, hip-hop artist, actor and author Common, country artist Ray LaMontagne, American Idol Jordin Sparks, jazz artist and saxophonist Joshua Redman, jazz pianist Brad Mehldau and international Irish music phenomenon Celtic Woman

This year’s National Christmas Tree will be the most energy efficient display in the history of this holiday tradition.
