A holiday tradition of longstanding is being renewed this season as the U.S. Marine Corps opens its annual Toys for Tots drive in Tucson and across the nation.

The Toys for Tots Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing underprivileged children with Christmas gifts.

The Marines began the drive in 1947.

"We take donations through our website as well as the gift bins we have all over town," says Staff Sgt. Ramses Durazo.

Toy donations can be made for children of any age up to 15. Toys must be new and wrapped.

"In the past the biggest issue we have had is getting toys donated for the older kids, Sgt. Jess Johnson says. "We suggest sporting equipment and things like remote-controlled cars, and even makeup sets for the older girls."

Toys for Tots will take donations until Dec. 15, when gifts will be distributed to needy children.
