La Rondine

The Metropolitan Opera

Broadcasts from The Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, January 26th, with a performance of La Rondine by Giacomo Puccini. The Italian libretto is by Giuseppe Adami as translated and adapted from a German libretto by Alfred M. Willner and Heinz Reichert. The performance will run approximately two and one-half hours.

A thoroughly Italian work inspired by Viennese operetta, La Rondine tells the story of a worldly woman who falls in love with a naïve younger man, resulting in a romantic and bittersweet comedy of true love and false identities. Ion Marin conducts this rare staging of Puccini’s elegant and poignant opera.
