Broadcasts from The Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday, March 2nd, with a performance of Parsifal by Richard Wagner, with a libretto by the composer.

The story is based based on Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival, an epic 13th century poem about the Arthurian knight Parzival (Percival) and his quest for the Holy Grail, and on Chrétien de Troyes' Perceval, the Story of the Grail. The performance will be sung in German and will run approximately five hours and thirty minutes. Daniele Gatti conducts.

Francois Girard's new vision for Wagner's final masterpiece reveals the infinite layers of this transcendent opera. Parsifal is a wayward youth on a quest for wisdom, compassion and reconciliation.
