House Bill 2552 Liquor Sales

February 3, 2010 | AZPM

House Bill (HB) 2552 changes when liquor can be sold and when hotel mini-bars can be restocked. Currently, Arizona says liquor cannot be sold between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM Monday through Saturday and 2:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Sundays. HB 2552 allows liquor to be sold after 6:00 AM on Sunday.

Hotel mini-bars currently cannot be accessed, even for restocking, between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM during the week and 1:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Sundays. The bill would change that to allow access to the mini bars after 6:00 AM on Sundays. The proposals is sponsored by a number of local lawmakers, including Rep. Matt Heinz (D), Rep. Steve Farley (D), Sen. Frank Antenori (R), and Sen. Linda Lopez (D).

The bill cleared the House Commerce Committee on February 3, 2010 with a 5-1 vote. Only one local lawmaker, Rep. Olivia Cajero Bedford (D), is on the committee. She voted for the proposal.
