Gov. Jan Brewer Monday established a task force to look at the issues of human trafficking and make recommendations on changes in state law and law-enforcement practices.

In a press release, the governor's office said Brewer had issued an executive order to form the task force, naming 15 prominent Arizonans to it.

"Members will be tasked with identifying opportunities to strengthen Arizona’s current human trafficking statutes, with the ultimate goal of reducing human trafficking and assisting victims of this heinous crime," the press release said. "The implementation of this task force combines two key priorities of Gov. Brewer’s administration: border security and public safety."

Brewer and Cindy McCain, a Phoenix businesswoman and wife of U.S. Sen. John McCain, will co-chair the task force. Brewer set a Sept. 30 deadline for the group to submit to her a summary of its finding and recommendations.
