Nigerian musician and political activist Fela Kuti (1938-1997) achieved global fame and success during his lifetime. He helped to popularize a sound known as afrobeat, and his live concerts included aspects of both political rallies and ritual events.
FELA!, a Tony award-winning musical based on Fela’s remarkable life story, will have three performances on Friday and Saturday, April 12th - 13th, at Centennial Hall on the University of Arizona campus.
New York-based actor and dancer Adesola Osakalumi says that Fela is a role that he was "born to play". For this run of the production, Osakalumi is joined onstage by actress Michelle Williams, a Grammy-award winning performer and member of the singing group Destiny's Child.
