The Lyric Opera of Chicago broadcast season concludes on Classical 90.5 at noon this Saturday, July 13th, with a performance of Oklahoma! by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein based on the play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs. The performance will run approximately three hours. James Lowe conducts.

“People Will Say We’re In Love”…“Surrey With The Fringe On Top”…“I Can’t Say No”…“Out Of My Dreams”… are but a few of the memorable songs from Oklahoma!. Set in the West just after the turn of the 20th century, the high-spirited rivalry between the farmers and cowboys provides the colorful backdrop for one of the greatest Broadway musicals of all time. Here is a story that is both touching and gripping—about growing up and falling in love, dreams and nightmares, and the promise and exuberance of a new land on the verge of statehood.
