LA Opera on Air broadcasts continue on Classical 90.5 at noon this Saturday, August 17, with a performance of Cinderella by Gioachino Rossini. The libretto is by Jacopo Ferretti, based on the fairy tale Cendrillon by Charles Perrault. The performance will run approximately three hours and ten minutes.
In her impoverished stepfather's castle, a kindhearted girl dreams of escaping the tyranny of her vain stepsisters. When the prince announces that he will choose his bride at a glamorous ball, she seizes the opportunity to take control of her own destiny.
Rossini's warmhearted retelling of the Cinderella story is a delightfully romantic comedy, brought to life by the vocal fireworks of an exciting young cast and a production new to LA Opera. Conducted by James Conlon.
