AZ Illustrated Arts: Thursday, July 11, 2013

An old mining company that's now a museum; refugees express through art; getting to know public artists.

Play the video above to see these stories on AZ Illustrated Arts for Thursday, July 11:

ART IN ANCIENT CONNECTIONS: Chris Tanz specializes in public art. We first met Tanz in 2006, at the site of her then recent Sun Circle public art installation along the Rillito River path. Her most recent project, Joining Hands, is located adjacent to Julian Wash on the southeast side of Tucson.

TUCSON PUBLIC ARTISTS: A chat with Tucson artists Blessing Hancock and Simon Donovan about public art. They both have experience in the process of designing and implementing public art projects in Arizona, as well as other places.

PROCESS MUSEUM: A former mining company's headquarters building is now an art museum. The Process Museum's primary focus is "to reveal the mental processes of the artist while engaged in creating work." Hence the name.

REFUGEE ART: Tucson Museum of Art presents Museum as Sanctuary: Giving Voice to Tucson's Refugees. The exhibition opened July 3, and it features art by refugee families who have been impacted by traumatic life experiences.
