Pima County workers will get the day after Thanksgiving, know as Black Friday, off as an official holiday instead of Columbus Day.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the swap at its meeting Tuesday morning.

The board also unanimously approved spending $280,000.00 to entice Major League Soccer pre-season training at the Kino Sports Complex. Those funds include $80,000 to lure a Mexican soccer team to play in Tucson.

In the proposal to the board, County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry suggested this is a good way for Pima to strengthen its Mexico soccer connection. Huckelberry also emphasized that Mexican team games continue to be the most attended soccer events in Arizona.

The Board also voted to reduce fees for green waste and modify the fee schedule at the Ajo Landfill in response to complaints from residents. On the consumer side of the proposal, residents will pay $5 for a truck and $3 for a car to drop off waste at the landfill.
