Scottsdale Legislator May Run for Secretary of State

GOP's Michele Reagan announces possibility of nomination for 2014 election cycle.

Republican Sen. Michele Reagan of Scottsdale is now officially exploring a possible candidacy for her party's nomination for Arizona secretary of state.

Reagan in December formed an exploratory committee but left the paperwork blank as to which office interests her.

The Arizona Capitol Times reported that changed Tuesday with a new filing by Reagan.

Arizona's secretary of state oversees the state election system and serves as a governor-in-waiting if there's a vacancy in that office. Arizona does not have a lieutenant governor.

Other Republicans either running for secretary of state or considering a candidacy include Mesa businessman Wil Cardon and Republican Rep. Justin Pierce of Mesa.

Incumbent Ken Bennett is bar by term limits from running for re-election.
