Aaron Anaya was sentenced to five years in prison for his part in smuggling drugs through the Arizona-Mexico border.
Judge Roslyn Silver handed down the mandatory minimum, which prosecutors and Anaya’s defense previously agreed to.
At a previous appearance, Anaya pled guilty to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense as part of a plea deal.
Anaya admitted to smuggling marijuana after aerial surveillance caught him in the act on Dec. 2, 2012.
Bundles of marijuana were tossed over the border fence between Yuma and Welton, and Anaya was seen loading them into his border patrol vehicle.
