University of Arizona police issued a campus-wide alert after a report of a man with a rifle in a parking garage. The "all clear" was signaled within 30 minutes when a search turned up no one.

The first alert said: "Report of subj. w/gun at McKale Garage. Avoid area of McKale Garage, report of Hispanic male, dark clothing, backpack and rifle on 1st level of garage."

Just before 2:30 p.m. University of Arizona Police received a 911 call reporting a man with a rifle on the first floor of the Cherry Garage, said Sgt. Joe Bermudez.

Police searched the area and did not find a suspect or a weapon, he said.

It was the second time this year that a report of someone with a rifle was made for a campus location. In March, police sealed off the center of campus when someone with a rifle was reported in the Administration Building. All seven floors of the building were searched with no one found.

Police later said that likely was a deliberately falsified report via a 911 call.
