Democratic state senators will meet next week to a fill a vacancy in their leadership ranks.

The Arizona Capitol Times reported that Sen. Linda Lopez stepped down as assistant minority leader, saying she has a new job that demands more of her time.

Senate Minority Leader Leah Landrum Taylor said her caucus will meet Oct. 29 to pick a new assistant minority leader.

Lopez will remain a senator.

She joined the Legislature in 2001, first serving in the House before being elected to the Senate in 2008.
