Story by Jake Feinberg

Bassist Dave Holland started his performing career in London.

One night, he received word that a visiting musician from the states wanted to hire him. That musician was Miles Davis.

Holland accepted the gig, and for the past 40 years has been performing music with no barriers.

His ability to lock the groove while adding his own self expression has led to engagements with everyone from Joe Henderson to Bonnie Raitt to Vassar Clements.

AZPM contributor Jake Feinberg sat down for a conversation with Holland, prior to his performance at the Musical Instrument Museum on Oct. 4 in Phoenix with his newest band Prism.
