Tucson Police Department, along with the U.S. Marshals’ office will be checking up on convicted sex felons tonight.
Operation Safe Treat is an effort to catch felons, who are giving out candy to children on Halloween.
Decorating for the holiday or participating in trick-or-treating is a probation violation for those on the sex offender list.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Daniel Leyva said that not all registered offenders realize they may be breaking their probation.
“In the past, you know, we have found people that had decorations out," he said. "Sometimes it may be they just forget. Sometimes they just outright violate.”
Leyva said authorities will be out all evening to remind offenders to stay clear of trick-or-treaters.
This is the sixth year the U.S. Marshal’s office has enforced Operation Safe Treat in Tucson.
