A mother of one of 19 firefighters killed in the Yarnell Hill fire has filed a $36 million claim against the Arizona, Yavapai County and the city of Prescott.
Marcia McKee said the three entities failed to follow proper firefighting procedures, which allegedly led to the June 30 death of her 21-year-old son in the blaze.
A claim is a precursor to a lawsuit.
The Arizona Republic reported that McKee is seeking $12 million apiece from the state, Yavapai County and Prescott. But she's willing to settle for $12 million within the next 60 days.
McKee's claim is the first from any family members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
A Prescott spokesman confirmed Friday that the city has been served with the claim, but declined comment.
