U.S. Rep. Ron Barber issued a short statement Wednesday announcing he will be running for re-election in next year's elections.
“There will be plenty of time next year to talk about the campaign, but let me be clear, I will be running and am putting everything in place to win," said the Arizona Democrat.
For months, Barber has said he had to talk to family members before deciding whether or not he would run for another term in Congress representing Arizona's Congressional District Two. During that time, however, his campaign fund raising machine was in full force.
The campaign sent out frequent emails soliciting money, and at least one member of Congress held a private fundraiser with Barber in Southern Arizona.
Three Republicans are vying for their party’s nomination in hopes of unseating Barber in Election Day 2014.
The National Republican Congressional Committee is also targeting Barber.
They have identified him as one of a handful of Democrats they see as vulnerable in the midterm elections.
