Motorists should be on the look out Saturday for cyclists participating in El Tour de Tucson, and it will cause downtown road closures where the race starts and ends.
Tour officials are anticipating about 8,000 cyclists.
Drivers should expect delays throughout the day, especially at Kolb Road and Irvington Road near Davis–Monthan Air Force Base until late morning; on much of Ina Road, Skyline and Sunrise Drives until the mid-afternoon; and on the I-10 Frontage Road from Tangerine Road to 22nd Street until the last cyclist finishes.
“There’s a lot going on in this city on Saturday," said Marilyn Hall, an El Tour official. "There’s also a football game at the UA that starts at 1:30 p.m....there’s going to be a lot of traffic control midtown. I also know there are tournaments for soccer that morning and early afternoon. So getting around town with three big things going on is going to be a little bit challenging.”
There is also a 70 percent change of rain on Saturday. El Tour officials are reminding people to be careful when out on the roadways.
