Matinee broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at 11:00 this Saturday, December 14th, with a performance of Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi, adapted by Arrigo Boito from Shakespeare's play The Merry Wives of Windsor and scenes from Henry IV. The performance will be sung in Italian and will run approximately three hours and twenty minutes.
An undisputed master of Verdi's final comic masterpiece, James Levine conducts Robert Carsen's acclaimed production, the first new Met Falstaff since 1964. Ambrogio Maestri sings the role of the blustery Sir John Falstaff, opposite a marvelous ensemble cast.
Falstaff is a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera; Royal Opera House, Covent Garden;
Teatro alla Scala, Milan; the Canadian Opera Company, Toronto; and De Nederlandse Opera, Amsterdam.
