Play the video above to see these stories on AZ Illustrated Metro for Wednesday, Dec. 4:

CPS ISSUES: A discussion with Penelope Jacks, the Southern Arizona director of the Children's Action Alliance, about the organization's CPS public forum and the new committee Gov. Jan Brewer created to deal with the issues in un-investigated abuse and neglect reports, as well as confidential records found in Phoenix alley.

NEW FIRE SHELTER: A company is designing new fire shelters that can withstand ten times the heat of fire shelters used today. The new material was demonstrated at a Rural/Metro fire station in Tucson, and the company making them is looking for funding to build a prototype shelter, so it can undergo federal testing required before fire departments can start buying it.

URBAN CHICKENS: There has been a growing interest in backyard chickens for eggs and meat in Southern Arizona and the rest of the country. We visited a couple of places with these urban chickens, amid the upcoming sixth annual Tucson Chicken Coop Tour, which will take place Dec. 7.

AIDS AWARENESS: A chat with Ethan Smith Cox, development director for the Southern Arizona Aids Foundation about the state of HIV/AIDS in Southern Arizona.
