The University of Arizona men's basketball team fell to second in the weekly Associated Press poll released Monday after the Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season.
Arizona, 21-1, traded places with unbeaten Syracuse, which was the unanimous choice in the poll of sportswriters and broadcasters. The Wildcats had been No. 1 for eight straight weeks.
Arizona lost Saturday night in Berkeley to the University of California, 60-58. That ended a school record 21 straight victories to open the season.
In the game, the Wildcats lost starting freshman forward Brandon Ashley for the season to a foot injury.
Arizona's next game will be Thursday at 7 p.m. against Oregon at the McKale Center in Tucson.
