Thousands of people are visiting Southern Arizona in the first half of February so they can attend dozens of shows that focus on brilliant gems, alluring minerals or captivating fossils.

The Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase is made up of multiple events, including the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show which is marking its 60th anniversary.

In conjunction with all of these activities, the UA's Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium is holding its own exhibit, "The Best of the Best: Prize Mineral from the Vaults of Arizona's Collectors."

Beginning Saturday, Feb. 8, visitors will be able to see hundreds of items from Arizona, as well as other parts of the world.

The Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase is from Saturday, Feb. 1 to Sunday, Feb. 16 at multiple locations.

The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show's "60 Years of Diamonds, Gems, Minerals and Gold" is taking place from Thursday, Feb. 13 until Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Tucson Convention Center.
