The Arizona Department of Game and Fish announced Friday the death of another bighorn sheep, bringing the number of fatalities to nine.
The department said either a bobcat or young mountain lion caused the most recent death of a pregnant ewe.
In November, 31 desert bighorn sheep were released into the Pusch Ridge wilderness in the Santa Catalina Mountains, outside of Tucson, under a Game and Fish re-establishment program.
One died of a medical condition caused by its capture, while seven sheep were killed by mountain lions.
A couple of weeks ago, Coronado National Forest announced the public would temporarily not be allowed in area where bighorn live, and this will remain in place for the welfare of the animal.
