State tax revenues started the year slower than the official legislative budget forecast, falling $18.5 million short, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee reported Thursday.
The report said that the three main tax revenue categories - sales tax, individual income tax and corporate income tax - fell short of the forecast by about $5 million each.
The report said the sales tax figure - $367.6 million - was below the forecast largely because of a technical adjustment made in the numbers by the Department of Revenue. Without the adjustment, it said, the figure would have been above thew forecast.
Total state revenues for the month were $819.1 million, the report said.
The committee’s report is used by the Legislature to decide on state spending levels for the next fiscal year.
