Davis-Monthan announced it will be holding an open house next weekend, as a chance to thank the community, military base officials say.

The event is free to the public and will take place April 12 and 13, beginning at 9 a.m. both days.

“We typically hold these every two years, depending on, budget constraints," said Lt. Erin Ranaweera. "It’s a big part of us being able to give back to the community and for them to see what we do.”

The event includes aerial shows throughout Saturday, and is highlighted by a performance by the Air Force Thunderbirds at 2 p.m.

The open house is also a chance for people to do something they normally can't, get access to the base.

“It’s a chance for us to open up," Ranaweera said. "...show them what we do, welcome them on base where they normally can’t get access, and see great performances and meet people.”

The event is also a food drive for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, so donations of non-perishable food are requested.
