New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows, among the 75 largest metro areas in the U.S., Tucson is in the top 10 for highest percentage of vacant rentals and for-sale properties.
About 20.8 percent of rentals are not leased - ranking ninth - and 2.9 percent of homes for sale are vacant - ranking eighth.
The city landed in the 45th spot for home ownership, roughly 66.3 percent of Tucson families own their own house.
Arizona has the second highest rate in the U.S. of homes that are vacant and for sale at 3.3 percent.
The state also has the 14th highest rate of empty rental homes, with 9.2 percent of such properties lacking a renter.
But the state does have a high rate of home ownership. Arizona ranked 16th, with 64.8 percent of families owning their own house.
