The Tucson Magnetic Observatory, a scientific research facility located just behind Udall Park went up in 1909 and was used by the U.S. government to study seismic activity.

Over the years more research facilities were added, in 1995 the City of Tucson took over the property and the seismic station was relocated outside of Tucson.

Now city officials are talking about demolishing some of the buildings to make way for more playing fields.
