Tucson's mayor and council have approved the plans for a multi-million dollar construction project on the city's southside.

The development south of 36 Street and next to Kino Parkway near I-10 will include hundreds of homes, 110 acres of commercial property - including a big-box store - and the University of Arizona's 65-acre biosciences park.

The vote was 6 to 1 and required a waiver to allow the big-box which many residents say they wanted. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.
