Pima County has a new superior court judge.

Gov. Jan Brewer Tuesday named Court Commissioner Joan Wagener to a vacancy on the court. Wagener has been a commissioner for 14 years, mostly in family and juvenile court.

“Joan possesses more than 25 years of legal experience in Arizona, including serving for more than a decade as a Court Commissioner,” Brewer said in a press release. “Her extensive judicial background, in addition to her years in private practice, will be a valuable asset to the court and the citizens of Pima County.”

Wagener is a University of Arizona law school graduate, and was in private legal practice for more than a decade.

She succeeds Judge Ted Borek, who retired.
