A pair of Tucson tech startups will receive a special grant from the Arizona Commerce Authority.

The AZ Fast Grant is designed to help small business commercialize their technology development.

Grannus, LLC and YourLabs each won in the small grant category, meaning they will receive $5,000, as well as special training on bringing their product to market and qualifying for larger federal technology start-up programs.

“This is very important," said Muni Budhu, co-founder of YourLabs. "As a start-up company we are strapped for cash, and so any help we can get financially, any connections we can get, will certainly help us to move the product from the lab into the marketplace.”

YourLabs makes software that gives teachers feedback about how students are learning.

He said grants like these are key to small companies like his.

Grannus designs plants that can produce both electricity and fertilizer, while emitting no pollution.

A total of 18 companies received the grant.
