Navajo County Supervisor Sylvia Allen announced Wednesday she is running for the state Senate seat vacated by the death of Chester Crandell.
The Republican previously served in the Arizona Senate from 2008 to 2012. She was then elected to the county's Board of Supervisors.
Last week, Crandell was found dead at a ranch in eastern Arizona after an apparent horseback riding accident. He was on his first term in the Senate representing Legislative District 6. Previously, he had a two-year stay in the House.
Crandell's name will remain on the Aug. 26 primary election ballot. After the primary, Republican Party officials will choose a replacement candidate to run in the November general election.
