The owner of the proposed Rosemont Copper mine plans to start exploratory drilling in the Santa Rita Mountains next month.
Staring in September, Hudbay Minerals will spend the rest of the year trying to learn more about the site southeast of Tucson. The company will spend $8 million on exploratory drilling operations on private property already owned by the company.
A release from the company said the U.S. Forest Service has been notified of the program, and that all parts of the drilling operations will be done within existing environmental constraints on the land. Water for the project will come from private wells on the property.
Hudbay's goal is to learn more about the site of the proposed Rosemont Copper mine, though company officials do not anticipate the drilling operation will cause any changes to their proposal.
