Governing board elections in 11 Pima County school districts have been canceled because the races were uncontested, county officials said.

The Pima County Superintendent of Schools determined that 20 candidates who did not have challengers met the nomination requirements and should be appointed to their respective school boards.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors approved the superintendent’s request Tuesday.

With the supervisors’ approval, those in the uncontested races have been appointed and will begin their terms January 1.

The positions are in Ajo, Altar Valley, Baboquivari, Catalina Foothills, Empire, Flowing Wells, Marana, JTED, Redignton, San Fernando and Tanque Verde school districts.

November’s general election will still have governing board elections for Pima County’s largest school districts including Tucson Unified, Sunnyside and Amphitheater.
