Republican Doug Ducey, Democrat Fred DuVal and Libertarian Barry Hess took the stage Thursday night in Tucson to discuss issues in the Arizona gubernatorial race.
The candidates answered questions from the audience on topics including education, the border, jobs and the economy. They also were allowed to ask each other questions.
Ducey questioned DuVal about tax policy.
"So I just want to know, can you look this audience in the eyes and admit to them, like I have, that you will not raise taxes?' he said. To what DuVal answered, "Yes."
Ducey later explained his plan for a tax policy if elected governor.
"My philosophy on taxes is, it is your money, you earned it, and I want you to keep more of it," he said.
Hess spoke about his desire to eliminate Arizona's income tax.
"The idea that we can't eliminate income tax is ridiculous because the rules...we make all the rules, we run the place, we created the rules and we can un-create the rules," he said.
DuVal, Hess and Americans Elect Candidate John Mealer will face off in a debate Sunday at the University of Arizona campus. Ducey declined that invitation.
