Activists say fighting poverty is essential to improve our community since this issue can have an impact, directly or indirectly, on everyone in society.

For example, in its August 2007 report, the US Census Bureau reported that 7.7 million families and 12.8 million children lived in poverty in the country, and experts say the number is higher when you count "low income" residents.

Presently, Tucson is the poorest city in the state with 20% of people and one in four children living in poverty. (US Census Report, Community Fact Finder, 2006.)

The Primavera Foundation, a group which helps the homeless, is holding a Community Forum on Poverty along with the College of Law at the University of Arizona.
