Recount results in Arizona's 2nd Congressional District race will be announced Wednesday morning in Phoenix, the Secretary of State's Office said Monday.

The recounts of all qualified ballots was completed Monday in Pima and Cochise counties, with a hand count of ballots in 5 percent of precincts.

In the original vote tally, Republican Martha McSally beat Democratic incumbent Ron Barber by 161 votes. Under state law, that margin required a recount, under supervision of the secretary of state and with monitors from both political parties.

Now the Secretary of State’s Office will turn over the results to Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Katherine Cooper, who will announce the results at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

After that, any participant in the election, including voters, candidates and political parties, could file a lawsuit challenging the results, potentially delaying the winner from taking office for an unknown amount of time.

Both McSally's and Barber's campaigns took legal steps after the election in relation to the vote counting. Their actions were rebuffed by elections officials, the Boards of Supervisors in Pima and Cochise counties and in one case by a federal judge.
