As we enter the holiday shopping season, the retail industry is bracing for lower than expected sales due to the down economy. so the day after Thanksgiving is being called "Buy Local Day."

So-called "Black Friday" is usually the biggest shopping day of the year for retailers, so local leaders and businesses want the profits to stay in Tucson and benefit our local economy.

Backers of the plan claim 45 cents of every dollar spent with a local business stays in the local economy, versus only 13 cents spent at a national chain store.
