The public's view

Tony Paniagua speaks to people at random in downtown Tucson about their economic situation this year and their hopes for 2009.

Most say it has been a very difficult year with high gas prices, layoffs and an uncertain job market. They are generally more optimistic about the new year, some because they supported Barack Obama for president and believe he will make some positive changes for the country.
