Slow, steady growth is the mantra for Tucson's economy in many places, and that includes retail sales.

Shopkeepers have seen sales rebound a bit every year since the recession.

"I think most retailers are probably planning on a reasonable increase this year," said Tucson Metro Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Michael Varney. "Maybe not the seismic increase that in a perfect world they'd like to see."

Varney said such growth has become expected in recent years.

He also added that many local retailers no longer fear they will lose customers to online stores this time of year.
