The Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness is seeking volunteers to help with its annual count of people living on the streets.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires the count each year and conducts its own census every other year. Communities across the country receive federal money based on the results.

In recent years, Tucson has received about $9 million from the federal government to tackle homelessness.

The census will take place on the morning of Jan. 27. Volunteers will work collaboratively under the direction of a team leader.
