An Arizona educational crisis

This is literacy week. In a country that demands compulsory education, the numbers of those unable to read and write has reached crisis proportions. Consider that approximately 50% of America's unemployed youth ages 16 - 21 are functionally illiterate. More than 3 out of 4 of those on welfare, 85% of unwed mothers and 60% of prison inmates are illiterate. Add to that that state lawmakers want to eliminate funding for adult education which makes the future for Arizona look bleak.
